We make instabooks.

instabooks is built by Lightweight Labs — a small team of software nerds with a thing for accounting tools that respect their users' time. We obsess over speed, keep our codebase small, and write the kind of rigorous software you'd want trusted with your books.

light·weight

adj.
/ˈlaɪtˌweɪt/
  1. 1. Designed to be simple and efficient, unencumbered by excess or unnecessary complexity.
  2. 2. The liberating feeling of creating without constraint, building tools that respect their users' time and attention.
  3. 3. Not taking oneself too seriously while solving serious problems.

Values

Fast

Having a fast, responsive user interface is not merely a product feature. Fast software respects users' time and attention, feels like an extension of thinking, and is just more fun to use.

Waiting sucks, and many moments of waiting build up accumulated frustration until a user is fed up. We make the faster, lighterweight version that users prefer.

Simple

When software gets too complex, it's impossible for it to be fast or correct, and yet the default tendency is for software to get more and more complex over time. (Think of any large company with a product that has millions of users.)

To avoid this fate, we value simplicity at all levels of product development. Complex code must be deleted aggressively, leaving behind simple, composable primitives.

Rigorous

Users trust us with their critical business data, and that's why we use a mathematical programming language to write rigorous code that itself serves as a persuasive proof of its own correctness.

In addition to mathematical rigor, we model and test our software in a way that ensures data integrity and security.

This is a ton of work but we think that users will notice and over time trust our software to be correct and reliable, and that trust is something we cherish.

Team

We are software nerds who eat technical challenges for lunch, drink new technologies for happy hour, and munch on code optimizations for a midnight snack. We work hard and have a blast doing what we love.
